TCPL Applies For Interim Transportation Tolls
TransCanada PipeLines Limited has filed
applications with the National Energy Board and the Alberta
Energy and Utilities Board
for interim tolls on
its respective Canadian mainline and Alberta natural gas transmission systems.
TCPL requested the interim tolls be effective Jan. 1, 2001.
Regulated tolls currently charged by TCPL on its Canadian mainline and
Alberta systems expire at the end of this year. TCPL applied for interim tolls
to provide a basis for charging tolls for transmission until the company applies for and the respective regulators decide on its final 2001 rates.
Firm transportation service from the Alberta border to TCPL's eastern
zone is commonly used as the benchmark for tolls on the Canadian mainline.
TCPL applied for an interim firm transportation toll of $1.132 per gigajoule
from the Alberta border to the eastern zone compared to the current rate of
$1.009 per gigajoule.
For its Alberta system, the company applied for an interim firm transportation toll of about 33 cents per mmcf to the company's provincial export
points, compared to the current rate of 31 cents per mmcf.
Firm transportation service to the company's Alberta export points is
commonly used as the benchmark for tolls on the Alberta system.
"These are interim tolls only," Doug
Baldwin
, TCPL's president and
chief executive officer, said in a news release. "We continue to negotiate
with shippers and customers on new tolls and services and toward a new
regulatory framework. We remain diligent in our negotiations."
