Alaska Gas Producers To Work On Pipeline

The three major Alaska North Slope natural gas producers have agreed to a joint work program on an Alaskan pipeline project.

Ultimately, such a project would involve a pipeline system to deliver gas from Alaska's North Slope to Canada and the Lower 48 in the United States.

The participants in the program are BP plc, Phillips Petroleum Company and ExxonMobil Corporation . The costs and governance will be shared equally among the three producers. The participants believe that having the three major producers working together, combining their gas, financial and technical resources, gives the project its best chance for success. Participation by other companies will be considered in the future.

The costs and scope for this first step are still being developed and will primarily be a function of the level of activities associated with the route options. At this point, the initial work program is expected to cost about $75 million (U.S.). The work effort will be primarily managed and staffed in Anchorage, with other potential joint work locations in Canada and the U.S.
