Gas Cavern Well (GCW)
An underground storage area (hole made underground by drilling salt generally out) used to store liquefied natural gas for future use.

Gas Cycling Scheme
A scheme in which part or all of the produced natural gas is reinjected into the reservoir after removal of natural gas liquids.

Gas Field
A field containing natural gas but no oil.

Gas Injection
The process whereby separated associated gas is pumped back into a reservoir for conservation purposes or to maintain the reservoir pressure.

Gas-Oil
A middle-range petroleum distillate. The European designation for No.2 heating oil (or furnace oil) and diesel fuel.

Gas/Oil Ratio
The volume of gas at atmospheric pressure produced per unit of oil produced.

Gasification
The process of converting solid or liquid fuel into a gaseous fuel. An example is the gasification of coal.

Generation, Electric
The act or process of transforming other types of energy into electricity, or the amount of electric energy so produced, usually expresses in kilowatt-hours.

Generation, Electric / Gross
The total amount of electrical energy produced by the units in a generating station or system of stations.

Generation, Electric / Net
Gross generation, less energy consumed out of gross generation for station use.

Geothermal Energy
Energy from natural "hot spots" in the earth's crust, associated with hot, dry rock or large reservoirs of steam or hot water.

Glory Hole
A basin created around an underwater drill hole, designed to protect equipment at the top of the hole from scouring by icebergs.

Glut
An excess of supply over demand. In a free market system, the glut of a product would cause producers' inventories to increase. Producers would lower the price to bring down inventories until supply and demand reach balance.

Greenhouse Effect
The theory that increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere trap additional heat and moisture and can, in time, create a hot house effect, raising the temperature at the surface of the earth.

Grid
A network of elecric power lines and connections.

Ground Elevation
The height of land above Sea Level.
